The Gang of Ten is another Republican fiasco and a great illustration why NOT to vote for McCain.
As Rush mentioned today, the reason the five Republican Senators believe they can do this is because of the party's Presidential nominee. He has advanced to the top of the party while compromising with or out-right adopted liberal, Democrat positions and policies. It is no wonder others will follow.
Some Republicans, like the five in the Gang of Ten, think the way to do business is compromise with instead of defeating Democrats. The Republicans in both houses of Congress should take an "all-or-nothing" stand. Either we get all drilling concessions from the Democrats or we will take none - and beat them over the head with it. There is enough support in the nation to do this; besides it being the right thing to do.
This whole situation is yet another reason why we should not vote for McCain.
In my opinion, as I have argued with family and friends, it would be better in the long run to have Obama for four years than McCain. If McCain is elected, the Republicans in Congress will feel tremendous pressure to go along with his liberal-leaning agenda. They will be more likely to compromise for the sake of the party and their own positions and power. Whereas if Obama is elected, they will be expected to oppose the presidential agenda, and can do so with little political consequence.
With Obama as president, conservatives can mount an offensive to take back both houses of Congress in 2010. Then in 2012, we can hopefully put a true conservative in the White House.
